Sound Healing Training Retreat: A Guide to Your First Immersion
There is a moment in the path of everyone who works with sound. The moment when receiving is no longer enough. When the silence after a soundbath wakes something in you that wants to hold what it has been given. That moment is the beginning of a new path — and a sound healing retreat is often the first door along it. But what exactly is a sound healing retreat? What separates a real immersion from a wellness weekend with a soundbath added? And how do you know whether a retreat is right for you — and whether you are right for it? This guide answers the questions we are asked most often by future sound practitioners .
What a Sound Healing Training Retreat Is — and What It Is Not
The curriculum of a high-quality immersion rests on three pillars. None of them is optional — and any training that covers only one of the three is not an immersion. It's a workshop.
1. Theory — the foundation
You learn the fundamentals of sound healing: how sound waves influence tissue and water structures in the body, what brainwaves have to do with your state (Beta, Alpha, Theta, Delta), and the unique properties of Alchemy Crystal Singing Bowls® by Crystal Tones® — from pure quartz to highly concentrated gemstone infusions. You also receive a small but honest grounding in music theory for sound practitioners: intervals, scales, the way frequencies meet and dissolve.
2. Practice — the hands
Playing technique isn't ornamentation, it's the craft. How to strike a bowl without rushing. How to hold a tone without pressing. How to move from one bowl to the next without tearing the field. A real immersion builds these movements until they are no longer "technique" — they are language.
3. Holding Space — the inner room
This is the pillar that is missing in online courses — and without it, everything else stays incomplete. How do you set an intention without imposing it? How do you hold space for a group in which someone is crying, someone is laughing, someone has fallen asleep — and everyone is safe at the same time? This skill cannot be taught. It must be lived. In a group. Across days.

A Day in the Immersion — How the Rhythm Carries You
What separates an immersion from a weekend workshop is not the number of hours. It is the rhythm. Days in a good sound healing immersion follow their own architecture:
- Morning — meditation and quiet frequency activation. Before thinking sets in, the day begins in receiving.
- Late morning — a theory session, often in a circle. Knowledge is not lectured; it is explored together.
- Midday — a freshly prepared meal, in silence or in soft conversation.
- Afternoon — practice. Play. Repeat. Play.
- Evening — sauna or cacao ceremony, followed by a sound journey in which the day's learning is allowed to settle in its own way.
Whoever spends five days in this rhythm does not return the same. The nervous system regulates. Sleep patterns shift. And your own sound — the sound with which you speak, breathe, hold — becomes audible.
Who Is a Sound Healing Retreat For?
A sound healing immersion is not the right next step for everyone — and that is good. It is especially powerful for:
- People who already have personal experience with sound bath, meditation, or sound work.
-
Yoga teachers, breathwork coaches, bodyworkers, and therapists who want to integrate sound healing as an additional modality.
Life coaches and facilitators looking for a tool that speaks directly to the nervous system. -
People who feel called to become sound practitioner themselves — as a profession, or as a vocation alongside their existing work.
Experienced meditators who want to deepen their own practice, even without necessarily teaching. - And honestly — also for people who don't yet know whether they want to teach. An immersion gives you the space to find out. Several of our participants have arrived with the question "is this even for me?" and left with the answer "it always was."
„This training was pure magic — relaxing, inspiring, and deeply connecting. I’ve always felt a calling to play an instrument, and the Alchemy Crystal Sound Bowls resonated deeply with me. Lydia was the reason I chose especially this training—she’s such a wise, fierce, and generous teacher who shares so much more than 'just sound'.
Each class was filled with insight, joy, and often ended with one of her incredible sound baths. There was a beautiful variety of Alchemy Crystal Bowls to explore, allowing each of us to discover our unique sound.
The group felt like a sisterhood in sound. I left each training day feeling strong in my feminine energy, clear minded, creatively fuelled and ready to start playing and sharing my own sound :).“

How to Choose the Right Soundbath Training Immersion
Not every immersion is the same. These six criteria help you find a training that delivers what it promises:
- The teacher and her lineage. Who teaches — and where does her own practice come from? A good teacher openly names her sources, her mentors, and the lineage she stands in. If this information is missing or vague, look twice.
-
The instruments used. Are authentic, high-quality bowls used? With Alchemy Crystal Singing Bowls®, you can recognise quality by the official Crystal Tones® license. Imitations sound similar but vibrate differently — and anyone who has heard the two side by side knows it immediately.
-
Group size. A real immersion is small. Six to twelve participants at most allow for individual correction and a true circle. Anything larger becomes a workshop — sometimes beautiful, but no longer immersive.
-
Place and atmosphere. Connection to nature is not a luxury, it's a teaching tool. A place with silence, trees, honest food, and a room in which sound can move freely is already half the training.
-
Written material. Do you receive a printed manual? A well-made training handbook (100 pages or more) is the tool with which you continue to work after the retreat. Without this material, what is learned tends to fade within weeks.
-
What happens after the retreat. Is there mentorship, a community, paths for going deeper? A serious immersion does not end on the last day — it opens a road on which you don't have to walk alone.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sound Healing Retreats
-
Do I need prior experience to join a soundbath training immersion?
It's not strictly required, but helpful. Those who already have their own sound bath or meditation practice feel connected from day one. Those who are completely new are also welcome — the introductory conversation helps us both assess whether the immersion suits this moment in your path. -
Will I receive a certificate after the retreat?
Yes. After completing all five days and the practical exercises, you receive a certificate of completed soundbath training as well as your 100-page training manual. The certificate allows you to offer sound baths independently. -
Do I need to bring my own bowls?
No. During the retreat, a pool of Alchemy Crystal Singing Bowls® is available to you. Many participants only decide during or after the retreat to purchase their own bowls — and Lydia personally accompanies this process as an official Crystal Tones® partner. -
How is a sound healing retreat different from a pure wellness retreat?
A wellness retreat has the goal of recovery. A sound healing training immersion has the goal of capability — you don't only go home more rested, you go home with the knowledge and the practice to open the same space for others. -
What if I'm not yet ready to send an inquiry?
Begin smaller. Join one of our open sound bath events in The Hague, book a Private 1:1 or 1:2 Alchemy Crystal Sound Healing Session, or subscribe to our newsletter for dates and insights. The path does not have to be walked in one leap.
The Alchemy by Lydia Soundbath Training Immersion Retreat
- From November 12 to 16, 2026, we are opening the space for exactly this kind of immersion. Five days, four nights, held in the quiet of Grounded Roots — a place chosen deliberately small, so that every person present is seen.
- Six places. Not because we are making ourselves small — but because deep work needs a small group. For the same reason, booking is only possible through personal inquiry. Every registration is preceded by a short conversation: so that expectations are clear, so that the group works well together, and so that you yourself know with certainty that this step is the right one.
-
The Early Bird rate runs until September 1. Included are 30 hours of soundbath training, your own 100-page manual, all meals, daily meditations, sauna sessions, cacao ceremonies, and full accommodation at Grounded Roots

If you are not yet sure whether the immersion is the right step, there is a softer beginning: Private 1:1 or 1:2 Alchemy Crystal Sound Healing Session — 75 minutes in which you hear the bowls, feel them, and find out whether their frequency resonates with yours. Many of our retreat participants have walked this path first.
